The Plus program

The Plus Program is the next CALLERLAB program after Mainstream. This page is an orientation, not a course — the definitions themselves are CALLERLAB's Plus Program Definitions, revised 25 August 2026.

How the calls are grouped

Unlike Mainstream, the Plus manual has no suggested teaching order. Its definitions appear in alphabetical order, and this page follows the manual's own order. If you are learning Plus, your teacher or caller will choose a route; the calls fall naturally into a few groups.

Calls built on what you already know

These are the ones that will feel familiar from the first attempt:

• Acey Deucey — the circulate family, extended
• Fan the Top, Grand Swing Thru, Relay the Deucey — the ocean wave family
• Ping Pong Circulate, Diamond Circulate, Linear Cycle — circulates again
• Triple Trade, Trade the Wave — the trade family
• Partner Hinge, Partner Tag — the hinge and tag families
• Dixie Grand — a grand-square-shaped figure with a swing
• Do Paso — an allemande-based figure you may already have met as a variation

Calls with a new shape

• Chase Right — the right-hand two-faced line's own call
• Circle to a Line — out of a circle and into a line
• Cloverleaf, **Clover and anything** — the clover shapes
• Coordinate, Crossfire, Cut the Diamond, Flip the Diamond
• Linear Cycle, Load the Boat, Peel Off, Peel the Top
• Pass the Sea, Pass to the Center
• Shoot the Star, Slip the Clutch, Teacup Chain, Track 2
• Spin Chain Thru, Spin Chain the Gears, Spin Chain and Exchange the Gears

The Anything calls

Two Plus calls are wrappers with a slot in them:

• (anything) and Roll
• (anything) and Spread
• Explode and (anything)
• Clover and (anything)

The idea is the one from Concepts and modifiers: the dancers complete the first part, then complete whatever the caller names in the slot.

Families and formations

• Quarter Thru Family — Quarter Thru and its relatives
• Thar Family — calls from a Thar
• See Saw, Turn Thru, Walk and Dodge, Walk Around the Corner
• All 8 Spin the Top, Eight Chain Thru, Follow Your Neighbor
• Pair Off, Scoot and Dodge, Triple Scoot

What Plus expects of you

Three things, and they are all about the Mainstream calls rather than the new ones:

1. Formations, instantly. Fan the Top and Grand Swing Thru assume you know a wave without looking at your feet.
2. The Facing Couples Rule, generalised. At Plus it applies to more calls and more formations.
3. Circulate paths. A large fraction of Plus calls are circulates in disguise.
